Thrifty Hearth started as a shared spreadsheet between two households trying to answer one question: where does the money actually go? A few years and a lot of receipts later, it has become a small site about running a home on a real budget.
We write about the ordinary money decisions that fill a household year: the electric bill, the insurance renewal, the grocery run, the birthday party, the side job on a Saturday. None of it is glamorous. All of it adds up, and most of it is easier to improve than people think.
How we work
Every idea on this site has been tried in an ordinary house first, with the numbers written down. Where we quote savings, they are our own figures from our own bills, and we say so when something did not work. We are not financial advisors, and nothing here is personal financial, insurance or tax advice; it is what worked for us, offered so you can check it against your own situation.
